I have registered and signed up an account on Youtube, and I usually access Youtube on my iPad to watch some funny videos in USA. However, when I come to China, Youtube doesn’t work at all. Why You Can’t Access Twitter in China?

In Chinese mentality, not just government, lots (if not majority) of people act like parent to those they care or concern, they feel responsible for you to only see/hear things they think appropriate to you. The western golden value of “free of speech” does not hold the same place in Chinese value system. People talks all the time, and 99% of words are just less than trivial.

The Chinese censorship authorities will block any site which they deem to contain material detrimental (even tangentially) to the Chinese Communist Party. The way they do this is by blocking at the IP address level. A crude tool indeed. Most websites in the world are hosted on Shared Hosting Accounts so if an IP address gets red flagged it could potentially impact hundreds of other sites hosted on the same server, using the same IP address. To create an analogy, it’s a bit like living in a shared house and one of the members is caught for being involved in illicit activities. Now she is in China with her family to visit their relatives. She wanted to upload some pictures into Instagram and showed me some interesting stories, but she can’t access and use the Instagram. I can’t access Dropbox on my android phone here in China! I need to get some files and photos stored in Dropbox, but right now it said it can’t be accessed. I was blocked by “This Site is not able to reach”. How can I get the files, photos and documents that I stored them into Dropbox? I usually keep what I want to save into Dropbox especially all documents about work. I am now in need of these documents about business to have a meet with other partners in China. Without these document, I don’t know how to continue my meeting here. I also need some other files sent from my workmates in USA, but I can’t do anything with my Dropbox at all. I come from the United States, and now I live in Shanghai for some reason. My grandpa is in China now, and he likes to visit many places of interest in China. So, I come here with him. I use my mom’s smartphone. I have installed many popular and useful apps into it. But I find many apps now do not work at all. I like to watch something from Vimeo. I want to access Youtube here in China, but I have no way to manage it. How to Access Youtube in China on Android? I am in China on a business trip for about 3 months. It is such a long time when thinking of friends and relatives in California. While what is more upsetting, I can’t access Instagram here in China. When I type the www.instagram.com in the Chrome, it takes a long time to respond. But no matter how many times I try in various ways, it only delivers me an error message like “The connection has time out.” It is annoying. Later on, I learned from the internet that Instagram is blocked in China. I was totally shocked. In my daily life in USA, I use my Instagram to stay in touch with my friends and relatives.
