As a result of the automatic URL change, at least 60 domains ending in twitter.com were registered in the past few days, which could be used for phishing and scamming activities. the X team eventually discovered the issue and fixed it. the VP of Research and Data at DomainTools noted that there was an opportunity for attackers to register domains in order to divert traffic from legitimate websites or brands. Traffic to many of the top million domains for brands ending in x, such as Webex, hbomax, xbox, etc., while several other globally popular brands, such as Rolex and Linux, also appear on the list of registered domains. Some recently registered domains ending in twitter.com are currently unresolvable and their registration records do not contain useful contact information.
