The Websearch.simplespeedy.info virus, which is also called the Google redirect virus, is an attack that changes the computer settings through the toolbar that a user installs on their PC unknowingly while downloading a file or viewing an attachment that has been infected with this browser hijacking attack. Once this virus is picked up it goes to work on the system settings immediately to change the browser settings, redirecting each opened session to the Websearch.simplespeedy.info virus page, which is scour.com. It appears to be a search engine and to the untrained eye and amateur computer user this is what they believe it is!
When a search is performed on Websearch.simplespeedy.info it will bring the user to a page full of advertisements and pop ups. Step A: Open Windows Task Manager to end process related to the domain. To do that, press Ctrl+Alt+Del keys at the same time to pull up Window Task Manager.
Step B: Open Control Panel from Start menu and search for Folder Options. Go to Folder Options window, under View tab, tick Show hidden files and folders and non-tick Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) and then click OK.
Step C: Press Windows+R keys to pull up Run box and type in regedit to open Registry Editor.
Step D: Delete all these associating files and registry entries of Websearch.simplespeedy.info Redirect in Registry Editor as below:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System “DisableRegedit” = “”.exe.dll
